RTP Protocol Development

Since 2010, we have been crafting custom software solutions with an unwavering commitment to quality. Our track record of 400+ successfully completed projects and 95% repeat customer rate stand as a testament to the quality of work we deliver.

apHarmony offers RTP protocol software development services.  Whether you are looking to build a new app based on the Real-time Transport Protocol, or maintain and support an existing application, we will be happy to bring our team to your software project.  Please feel free to give us a call at 630-855-7522 for a free evaluation and quote.

The RTP protocol brings the capability to efficiently stream audio and video over the Internet, at the cost of 100% fidelity of the data.  In instances of significant corruption in the data stream, the audio or video could be temporarily interrupted while the RTP connection adjusts and resends lost data.  In order to improve redundancy against network errors, RTP clients generally implement caching to make the stream resilient against short-term network errors.

As audio and video become increasingly central to delivering and monetizing content over the web, RTP is playing an important role in the evolution of web services.  From live streaming of content to on-demand services, RTP enables distribution of media content, maximizing quality and performance.

In addition to network-level development of the streaming code, an important component of the performance of an RTP channel is the actual codec used by the application.  The codec will define the resilience of the particular channel, as well as the compression of the media and its resulting quality.  There is often a tradeoff between resilience, compression, and performance.  High-performance codecs often require lower levels of compression for reduced processing requirements, while high resilience will require duplication of certain information and a lower general level of compression.

In addition to audio and video, RTP can be used for non-critical data transfer of large amounts of information.  As the Internet of Things becomes further mainstream, RTP may be used to aggregate non-critical information, providing a balance between quality of the stream and volume of data.
